Have a Vision

So now that you know that your eyes don't really "see" anything, you should get really comfortable and familiar with what your eyes actually do do. Take a look at this excellent overview of human vision. Also take a look at this short clip from NOVA, it covers much of the same material, but from a different perspective.
Take a look at this excellent site that will give you an understanding of how we process what we think of as "color". Make sure you click on all 3 tabs at the top to get the full overview

  1. Okay, so..
If I could find my way in the dark I'd be totally beast! I didn't know us humans rely on sight so much! Longer wavelengths produce red light and shorter wavelengths produce purple light.. I have no idea what that means. The iris grows and shrinks to protect the pupil. Rods process black and white. And cones process color. Who comes up with this? Sight is the sense we rely the most on.. I never realized how different things would be if I couldn't see. Y'all know I'd really be aggressive if I lost my sight!

  2. So the first video I didn't really enjoy because the lady's voice is annoying. But basically she just went over what we went over in class. She explained how we percieve colors and how they are converted into neural messages so that our brains can understand and we can interpret it. Right..... the second video I really enjoyed its weird how we only see a mixture of red, blue, and green but we have colors like brown... It's confusing but informational. I liked how the video showed the images and she made me realize that our brains are pprocessing when we are just "seeing" the image our brains are actually processing it. The brain is just so complex but it makes everything so simple.

  3. The blonde lady basically gave us a recap of what we did in class and part of what we've taken notes on in the first video. I didn't like the clip mainly because I had to download Quicktime to view it. The little website with the picture and with the hues of color for the painting, I liked that because of how it showed how bright and how much red/green and yellow/blue were in certain parts of it. Thinking about this stuff gives me a head ache cause I've been used to thinking "it happens for some scientific reason I probably don't need to know or CARE to know" but it's interesting in a complex kinda way.

  4. you know what ms. rious this is the third time i tried to send this thing and it better go through i dont have time for this new age technological stuff. but video #1 was boring it talked about wavelengths, light in the eyes and the process light goes through for us to see. video #2 was interesting it made me feel a little stupid and it explains how my eyes are lying to me 24/7 lol lines are not lines anymore faces are not faces WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO!!!! yeah i know thats not really what they were tryna say. Video 2 was fun though KEEP TEACHING ME THESE OUTRAGEOUSLY CRAZY AND CREEPY PSYCHOLOGICAL THING!!

  5. I liked the videos. They were very explanatory. I didn't know that our eyes saw the images upside down. Or that 1/3 of our brain processes vision. Also, our eyes perception can be messed up by illusions. This made me wonder why? Is it because our eyes are "seeing" or our brains messaging it that way. I find it awesome that we see things are we do and then outher animals can see more that we are able to. I wished we have the senses like other animals, like seeing in the dark, or ultraviolet or microwave rays. I agree with Dalita that our eyes are lying to us but they also are telling the truth.

  6. The videos were insightful. I must say overall they were also interesting. The first video I remembered watching in our last class together. The thought that there is " no color" is still shocking to me. It just blows my mind !!!! Also, it was cool learning about how the different colors mix.I have to say I'm starting to learn more about how complex we really are as humans. We really overlook a lot of things in life.

  7. Very informational. What I took from these videos is what I see is actually not what I think it is . the Color I see as purple is actually a totally different color? Can somebody invent some glasses so I can see the way things actually are and stop perceiveing things to be the total opposite!

  8. I thought the video with the lady as helpful to learn how the human eye works but I really like the article thing about color. So yeah, I'll talk about that to be different. The article thing said colors are opposite and complement each other, which is cool. One thing that I find weird and cool is how we dont see any redish green colors or yellowish blue. Just thinking about how to describe those is difficult but its easy to understand the colors we do see are all thanks to light waves, rods, cones, and stuff. I thought it was funny how color can produce certain emotions but thinking about it makes sense since color is a sensation. I guess we'll never know what emotion we would feel from seeing a red green color.

  9. The human brain is a more intricate system than I originally thought. My eyes have deceived me the videos prove it; they were very informative of human perception. It’s strange we could see a variety of colors when there are none. What other secrets will psychology uncover?

  10. Ok, so I'm pretty late please excuse me. My weekend has been hell basically, but anyways video one was very informational but hard to get through because it was boring. She was very uninteresting no more of her the process the eye go through to see light is so much in very little time. Video two was some interesting our eyes be decieving is to much. It was pretty unbelievable how our eyes see one color but its a totally different color. The color thing is really a true shocker!

  11. Well , yea im late but umm im pretty sure my eyes are decieving me at this very moment nothing new, lol. But, yes of course color DOESNT exist. I like the fact the i can grasp a better understanding of how the human eye works.Once again started a arugument with my dad about there's no such thing as color lol. I also didnt know that our eyes saw the images upside down. But, overall the videos were quite informing and some were intresting.

  12. The color thing was really informative. Color really does NOT exist.....it's the way we perceive it. I found it pretty amazing on how we perceive something that has color and something that really doesn't have color at all.
